Deadgirl (Road to Halloween)

Here we are people. We are starting to get a flow. Three days in a row now and I am feeling good about this. I know the reviews aren't too long, but you find out whether to spend the time and money on the movie. For today's review, I present "Deadgirl".

To be honest, I wasn't to sure what the film was about, I had found a lot of people recommending it as, "the next big thing in horror". How could I pass up an opportunity to witness the evolution of my favorite genre? However, nothing could really have prepared me for the awkwardness I was about to witness.

The plot revolves around the characters, J.T. and Rickie; both in high school and not enjoying it. They are looked down at by the Jocks and pretty girls, so one day they decide to chill out and have a few beers down at the abandoned mental facility. While wrecking the joint they find their way through a secret panel that takes them to a hidden room. Contained within the room is the body of a young girl; naked, bound in chains and covered in plastic. The original thought here is that they have found themselves a dead body. The reality? They have discovered a creature that is very much alive, and despite J.T.'s best efforts remains this way. As the story progresses we start to see the dark underbelly of the teenage thought process. Rickie wants nothing to do with it, but J.T. sees a business opportunity and the possibility of "free pussy" whenever he wants.

The acting is not bad, and a lot of the more heated arguments are very convincing. Although, when it comes to the rape scenes...I am not really sure how you are supposed to act. It looks awkward and grotesque, maybe even more so due to the victims lack of reaction to the horror she is being put through. The script is fine, with the exception of the entire movie being about monetizing rape.

To be honest I thought that the film started with an interesting premise. A creature that cannot die. In my mind the movie would have been better served as a more shocking feature, where they would vent there frustrations on the poor girl until death. Then of course she would come back, meaning you could experience the whole thing again. And even better is that you could sell this to people...in a sort of Hostel typed idea, but far more grotesque. What I ended up with was watching repeated rape sequences, which neither shocked or appalled me. Instead I found myself bored at their lack imagination. Not the characters, but the writers. Surely, there was a better use of a person who cannot die.

In all the movie is worth a watch. Don't buy, just rent though. I can't imagine anyone wanting to subject themselves to this twice let alone on a regular basis. In conclusion, I feel that this film does a lot of things, however, one of them is not impress.

Rating 3 out of 5

See it if you liked:
Try as hard as I might I couldn't think what to put in this section. Which is probably a plus for this film as it totally individual; although there is probably a reason.

What does IMDB say?
